Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is The Steel Experience? How does it work?
TSE is a one-man operation with custom backing tracks. All of the tracks were created using the Korg Triton Music Workstation; some songs have additional guitar tracks. All the tracks were mixed using ProTools, which is the industry standard for audio engineering. Jon plays steel drum and sings to the tracks. It makes for a compact staging area which will work well in smaller venues, where space is a priority.

What are your basic fees for an engagement?
Currently, I offer sets of 1, 2, or 3 hours, with 10 minute breaks at the end of the hour (for multiple hour performances). At present, my basic rate is $50/hour. Based on exhaustive research in fair pricing arrangements, this was quite reasonable for a one-man act. Performances requiring extensive travel will require an additional mileage charge, which is negotiable.

Is there a limit to the distance you will travel to perform?
In theory, no. I am based primarily in two locations in Florida: Port Orange, in Volusia County, and Sunrise, in Broward County. Naturally, for longer distances there are variations in engagement fees above and beyond the basic rates, depending on mileage, which are negotiable. It is always my fervent wish to provide you with quality entertainment at reasonable rates, but it is the nature of the business that musicians must also earn a reasonable rate for their work.

Do you take requests?
Sadly, the way the show is constructed limits me to the pre-sequenced tracks in my library. While the library is always expanding, there is always the chance I may not have the exact song you would like to hear. I sincerely regret this limitation, but as a one-man band, I have to sequence every song I perform. Apologies in advance.

What organizations are you a member of?
I am a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 389, based in Orlando, Florida. I am also certified through the Recording Workshop in audio engineering.
